Apprentice Education
In addition to the hands–on learning that takes place on the farm, apprentices participate in a variety of other programs and activities that enhance and broaden their education here.
CRAFT All of our apprentices take part in CRAFT, the Collaborative Regional Alliance For Farmer Training program. During their stay here at HVF, the apprentices visit about ten other participating farms during the growing season in order to get an overview of different farming practices.
The Nature Institute The Nature Institute, just up the road from HVF, provides six educational sessions with our apprentice team. This is a valuable and rare opportunity, and we are pleased to include this in our program. In exchange, our apprentices help prepare the CSA share we give in exchange
Farmscape Ecology Program The Farmscape Ecology Program has its home at HVF. Doctors Conrad and Claudia Vispo (biologist and botonist, respectively) give lectures and work with the farmers here.
on–farm
learning sessions
There are extensive orientation sessions in March, at the start of the season. In November, we hold thorough season reviews to be sure that the team is clear about the farm management decisions that have been discussed throughout the year.
