Our Departments The Farm is comprised of many different departments, all of which operate under the Farm's common management structure. The farm, dairy, green market, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, bakery, and Farm Store work together toward attaining Hawthorne Valley Farm's vision of “nurturing the land that nurtures us.” |
| Each department has a manager, who is responsible for the budget, personnel issues, and operating procedures for his/her department. However, the managers do not work in isolation, as they meet weekly to discuss current issues, policies, and financial considerations and plan for the future that concern the organization. All department budgets are combined to form the Farm's operating budget. This means that profits in the dairy, for example, might be applied toward a tractor for the farm, or revenue earned in the store could purchase equipment for the bakery. The weekly sessions also ensure that managers carry an overview of the entire enterprise and keep its mission in mind as they go about the day-to-day running of the place. | |
